The Many Faces of a Creative CEO

The complexities in any leader, whether they be a coach, teacher, politician, or CEO, is always vast and varied. Oftentimes you do not get a glimpse into who they are, what drives them to do what they do, who inspires them, where they find inspiration, and just about anything else about their process until a memoir, autobiography, or biography is written. This site strives to change that. I will provide content as it relates to ideas I have, things I am particularly fond of, and responses to things I see. My motivation for having this site is to give those who wish to see it, to get an unencumbered view into my world.

Visit often to see what I am thinking, what I like and to see what I'm doing both personally and professionally. Much of what I decide to post comes to me spontaneously and will give you a rare glimpse into how I think and what inspires me. I will also feature quotes and short blurbs from people I meet who have an important lesson to share, giving you a broader sense of what goes on behind the facade.

Launching today in the iTunes App Store: Beats Music

Hoping to replicate its headphones success in the streaming market, Beats is positioning its service—which will take on the likes of Spotify, Google, Apple, and others—as the one that understands users’ emotions, offering the best of human curation and computer algorithm. 

It’s essential for businesses to diversify and broaden their offerings to consumers in order to never become stale, but with music listeners already loyal to Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, Google, and the rest of this already crowded field - how will Beats ensure success?  Is the customers of their headphones enough to generate revenue and increased visibility for the company?  How does this service benefit me as a listener better than any of the others?  I test numerous apps on a daily basis and any app that requires too long of a learning curve goes into a “testing” folder as opposed to a folder of apps I use daily.  It’s challenging to get me to leave one app for another once I’ve grown familiar.  I’ve been a loyal customer of Pandora and partly out of comfort and partly because I like their music choice algorithms, I’ve always returned to them after testing out other music apps.  I’m curious as to what Beats has to offer, but unless they can do something new and radical that I’m not accustom to, I’m not sure what will make me leave my comfort zone.  I like Pandora not because it’s the best of the best, but mostly because I know what to expect when I turn on the app and pick a certain station.  The unknown or inconsistency of music from the other apps drives me back to familiarity.
